Introducing the Krogen 52' with Total Architectural Integrity Kadey-Krogen Yachts announces the addition of a completely new model to its fleet of Pure Full DisplacementTM trawler yachts--the Krogen 52'--yet another step in setting the standard for capability and liveability in the trawler yacht market. Building on the ten-year success of the Krogen 58', the Krogen 52' offers many of the same design elements with its raised pilothouse and spacious living areas. In keeping with the company's adherence to architectural integrity, the Krogen 52' is constructed with entirely new tooling as opposed to the all-too-common industry practice of simply "stretching" the hull of a smaller model. Like every Kadey-Krogen yacht for nearly twenty years, the Krogen 52' will be built at Asia Harbor Yacht Builders Co., LTD, in Kaohsiung, Taiwan. The liveability of the Krogen 52' is evident immediately upon boarding. The fully covered aft deck or "back porch," a fun and functional feature of every Kadey-Krogen, gives way to the spacious saloon through welded aluminum weather-tight doors. Moving forward and to starboard is the fit-for-a-gourmet galley complete with a full-size Jennair(R) refrigerator and a Viking(R) range. Like her larger sister, the Krogen 52' has a weather-tight Dutch door providing direct access to the galley from the starboard walkway.
Portside of the galley are the steps up to the pilothouse with household-like standard risers and treads plus a rock-solid banister for a safe and sure grip at sea. The pilothouse on the Krogen 52' accommodates dual helm chairs, a first for a vessel of this size, allowing both captain and mate great visibility and a terrific site-seeing station to enjoy together. Owners have the choice of a two- or three-cabin arrangement, with the master stateroom forward or amidships. Those opting for a two-cabin arrangement will enjoy the utility of a large dedicated office space. Two heads are standard with any configuration, and both heads boast an enclosed stall shower.
The Krogen 52' will be offered in both single and twin engine configurations and will feature Kadey-Krogen's exclusive counter-faired keel, a design the company pioneered on the Krogen 58'. This innovative keel design imparts a counter rotation of water flowing into the propeller, canceling some of the propeller-induced water rotation. The result is straighter water outflow and improved forward thrust which generates better fuel economy than that of conventional keel designs.
Standard power will be provided by a single John Deere 6068AFM75, a continuous duty 231hp engine. Optional power will consist of two John Deere 4045TFM75 engines producing 121hp each. With 1,400 gallons of fuel, range is expected to be in excess of 3,000 miles at 7 knots with a top speed of 9.5 knots. The company took a customer-friendly approach to introducing the Krogen 52'. "Rather than the media and website blitz that typically surrounds the announcement of a new yacht, we took a more grassroots approach and contacted current owners to see if they were interested in the project," says Larry Polster, vice president of Kadey-Krogen Yachts. "We also took a set of plans to Trawler Fest in Fort Lauderdale and within ten days of initial exposure, the first five hulls were reserved." Tooling for the Krogen 52' is expected to complete in late fall of this year, with the first hull arriving in the United States in summer 2011. Kadey-Krogen Yachts currently builds trawler yachts in seven model lengths ranging from the Krogen 39' to the Krogen 58'. The company's headquarters is located in Stuart, FL, with additional sales offices in Annapolis, MD, and Seattle, WA.
