How much did Briney Bug cost? We chose to design and build Briney Bug because it was feasible and cheaper, but most importantly, it is what we enjoy doing. Maybe it can be so for you, too. To achieve our goal of economical, comfortable and dependable cruising in a powerboat, we trade time for money, go slow instead of fast, utilize simple but dependable gear, and we think for and rely on ourselves. We enjoy our time, and derive great satisfaction arriving at various destinations without having spent a fortune. In fact, even with the stuff that got thrown away, we spent only $70,000 for a well-found, comfortable and efficient 34-foot-long troller yacht. Of course, from the time we ordered the keel timbers to launch, it took four years. Could have gone quicker, but when Jill would come out to help, she would want a break after 10 hours of working. Rudy found it hard to make progress under such conditions. —Rudy and Jill Sechez
Here’s how the Briney Bug story is presented: What does Briney Bug look like?
